Data sources and freshness

All data comes from public datasets published by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration on the U.S. DOT Open Data portal (data.transportation.gov). Each section of a carrier report shows which source and date it comes from.

Company details, fleet size, cargoCompany Census File. Refreshed Oct 18, 2026.
Operating authority and insuranceMotus Carrier and Motus Insurance files (daily) when FMCSA publishes a Motus record for the carrier. Otherwise the "All With History" files, which FMCSA stopped updating on May 14, 2026 when registration moved to Motus. Those reports are labelled "last known" and are not a live check.
Insurance layers and cancellationsActPendInsur file (snapshot of May 14, 2026).
Inspections and crashesVehicle Inspection File and Crash File, last 24 months. State averages cover every inspection of carriers based in the state in the same period.

Public data can lag behind the official system or contain errors. Always confirm authority and insurance on FMCSA's Motus record for the carrier before booking a load.

Motus coverage over time

FMCSA is still moving records into Motus and publishes only part of them as open data. The more carriers have a published Motus record, the more of our reports show current authority and insurance instead of the May 14, 2026 snapshot. We record this share at every refresh.
